Understanding Your Body’s Response to Dental Implants

Your body is incredibly intuitive to foreign actions such as a dental implant procedure, wisdom tooth removal, or other practices. When a procedure is complete, your body will give a response to help speed up the healing. The following responses are completely normal and is evidence that your body is responding appropriately to the dental implant procedure:

  • Discomfort or pain that is alleviated with prescription medicine
  • Facial swelling for 3-7 days
  • Low-grade fever
  • Nausea

Although these responses seem like they are evidence of a problem, they are quite normal! However, if you notice any of the following, give us a call:

  • A temperature over 101 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Continuous bleeding
  • Dry socket
  • Intense pain that will not subside

You can help your mouth heal by avoiding spicy or hot foods and foregoing intense exercise until your body has finished its healing process. With intentional post-operative care, we are confident you will love your new dental implants.

Dr. Tomlinson has successfully completed hundreds of dental implant procedures. We would be honored if you chose Athens Oral Surgery Center for your dental implant needs! If you have any questions about post-operative care or the procedure itself, don’t hesitate to call us: 706-549-5033.
